Rental Policy
Fee Structure
For multi-week runs, rental periods begin on Monday and end on Sunday. The first Monday is
dedicated for installation, while the final Sunday is for dismantling. For one-night exhibition events,
installations may be arranged to take place in the week preceding the event, and dismantled on
the day following.
Non-Members Members
One-Night Exhibition and Reception Event:
Gallery $180 $90
Studio $240 $120
Full Space $320 Varies
Extended Exhibition following
reception event (in Gallery only): $80/week Varies
(50% due with application -- Balance due 20 days before rental date)
Damage deposit for standard reception: $ 300.00 (Due day of event)
The damage deposit in the form of a check must be paid the evening of the reception event in
addition to the rental fee. This deposit is completely refundable within 48 hours of the event if no
damages have occurred, nothing has been taken, or no cleaning beyond customary is required. If
any of the above exceeds the amount of the deposit, rentee will pay the additional amount.
Application Procedure
It is recommended that Artist(s) schedule a meeting to discuss the proposed exhibition project
before completing a proposal. Contact lisa@sopastudios.com to arrange a visit.
Artist/artists (up to 4) interested in securing exhibition space at SOPA Studios should submit a
proposal (nothing fancy) that includes the following:
• Brief summary of nature of work to be exhibited (painting, sculpture, installation, etc)
• Indicate if application is for one-day show or longer term
• For each artist involved, a concise bio and samples of work; easiest and quickest if you can
direct us to your web site or submit images by e-mail.
• Proposed exhibition date (or dates, in order of preference)
• Statement of intentions for reception event, including date/hours, expected attendance,
food/drinks to be served, and planned entertainment, if any. Please be as specific as possible in
order that space/usage requirements may be ascertained.
Upon approval of the application, a deposit of 50% will be collected. The balance of the rental fee
and all other charges will be due 20 days before the date of rental. SOPA Studios is not able to
extend credit but can accept credit payments via PayPal, with a 3% service charge.
Reception Event
An opening reception is recommended on one evening in the first week of the rental period. All
costs involved are the responsibility of the artist. Plans for availability of food, wine and other
beverages should be included in the proposal statement.
Event staffing and additional services are also available upon request. (See Reception Services
List for pricing).
Hours
Receptions may be scheduled for three-hour period, to close no later than 11pm.
Open hours vary within the gallery,however, private showings may be arranged throughout the
exhibition period. A key will be made available for this purpose upon request.
Parking
SOPA Studios offers no parking on the premises, except for purposes of delivery.
Alcohol Consumption
Wine and beer may be served during reception events, provided that guests are not charged for
their drinks, and alcohol is not provided to minors (Collecting Tips or Donations is fine.) SOPA
Studios reserves the right to close bars should the staff deem it necessary to protect the facility
and safety of individuals.
Available Equipment
The following is available for use during reception events.
One efficiency refrigerator with freezer; two mini-frig’s (w/out freezer)
Microwave Oven
One utility sink
One table - 8 feet
5 Disc C.D. Player
Insurance
SOPA Studios is not responsible for theft or damage to artwork throughout exhibition period.
Rentees are encouraged to seek theft/damage insurance at their own cost.
Further, the SOPA Rental agreement stipulates that SOPA Studios is not responsible to any
injuries sustained by lessee or lessee's guests, patrons or agents during the term of the
agreement. Lessee is encouraged to seek liability insurance for purposes of any injury or
damages incurred during the term of the rental.
