| Artist Profiles Amanda Ramirez Sculpture / Bookmaking Influenced by a great love for paper, artist Amanda Ramirez uses paper as the base for creation of hand-made journals and sculptural forms. Amanda has loved art- making since childhood, and credits her early training to an artistic mother who allowed use of all of her supplies, as well as her father who could fix and build anything he put his mind to. Amanda approaches her use of paper in the same way a quilter does – combing all the colors and textures to make one united pattern that envelopes her sculpture. “When people see my sculptures, I hope they will want to open and close the door, want to look inside, and want to feel the weight of the box in their hands and enjoy the simplicity of them without over-thinking the details.” She likes the idea of something secret tucked away and the thrill of opening it to find a treasure. “When life can be chaotic and uncertain, I enjoy finding a small treasure. The doors open to a safer, happier place -- a little garden with scented flowers growing from gold vines, birds and butterflies that I chased in my backyard, magical skies and swirling waters-- all wrapped up in a warm quilt.” Amanda is a graduate of Cal-State University Los Angeles. She currently is raising and home schooling two active boys, ages 7 and 8, and dedicating all available time to creating her art. |
