| Artist Profiles Catharine Stebbins Photography Catharine Stebbins finds inspiration in the quality of light, color, and composition in 17th century Dutch paintings, the forced perspective in natural history dioramas and the lyrical beauty of Andy Goldsworthy's ephemeral sculpture. Her work deal primarily with the psychological and physical manifestations of one's personal connection to place, and the often humorous intersections of science and daily life. The artist states that she feels like a painter, but in the absence of skill with a painter's tools, uses her camera to brush into life her own powerful feelings, emotions and reactions to her environment. Catharine's work has been featured in solo and group shows in Los Angeles and New York, is held in private collections and was recently acquired by 4Culture, a Seattle WA public art initiative. An exhibit from the series CERTAIN PLACES was reviewed in ArtScene, April 2007. |
