| Artist Profiles David Graves Painting / Printmaking David Graves has for more than thirty years worked as a painter and with a variety of printmaking media to develop bodies of work that give visual expression to ideas and perspectives about the living world. The artist’s “Kinship” prints, for example, explore anthropological themes as a design aesthetic. These layered works are developed through a reductive woodcut printing process wherein a layer is pulled from a block, which is then further reduced with additional cutting for a printing of sequential layers. The works develop slowly and spontaneously, as would a painting, while allowing for the creation of closely-related multiples, each uniquely alive with color and movement. |
