| Artist Profiles George Ramirez Typesetting / Printmaking/ Multi-Media George is a graduate of Cal State University that has mastered Letterpress printing , which he often incorporates in his works. In recent years, George has worked in the graphic arts field while continuing his personal artmaking practice as a Resident of SOPA Studios, where he shares a studio with wife Amanda. George's art is developed through practices of printmaking and collage, and utilizes both image and text to create richly imaginative works. For the artists' community, George offers a valuable resource as a Master Typesetter, providing presentation events designed to introduce Letterpress skills and equipment, and offering one-on-one consult and assistance to artists toward the realization of projects. George's studio is equipped with antique presses and type -- the original printing method invented in the mid-19th Century. George and many others believe that the beauty and character of hand-set Letterpress cannot be emulated with the contemporary technology that has made this printing process near-obsolete. The deep appreciation among artists and others of the unique character of the hand-made is what has led many artists in recent decades to explore the use of hand-set Letterpress in their fine art works. |
