| Artist Profiles Karen Kieffer Painting / Multi-Media Karen's current focus is in the Encaustic medium, a media she has worked with for about five years. Encaustic is the art of painting with molten beeswax mixed with colored pigments and resin. The results are like no other medium—mysterious, deep, and translucent, with a glow that seems to emanate from within. Karen's inspirations come from her personal, internal response to the subject at hand. For landscape works, she is inspired plein air, but typically will carry the memory of nature's experience back to the studio where works are developed to completion. Currently, Karen is happily focusing on her work in a concentrated manner, having arrived at a place in her life that allows her passion for art to be fully and expressively explored. Karen is a member of SOPA Studios' Artist Collective and also exhibits elsewhere in South Pasadena. The artist maintains her studio in her home in Alhambra where she resides with her husband and daughter. |
