| Artist Profiles Kira Vollman Painting / Multi-Media Kira Vollman is a visual artist and sound artist, at times bringing both mediums together to create inter-active sound sculptures. “In my visual art as in my sonic art, I create imaginary landscapes that are sculptural, structural, atmospheric and multi-dimensional. I am continually exploring the intersection of sound and image by employing inter-active sonics, sculpture and painting.” Vollman has produced large scale paintings for local nightclubs, site-specific installations, gallery exhibitions, posters, concert flyers and CD package designs. Current projects include her “Summit Talk” series of paintings that take on a fantastical quality, creating hybrid creatures that are communing with birds. Her wall sculptures evoke mid-20th Century sensibilities that have a timeless intersection with today. Vollman also creates from assembled and re-purposed scrap metal objects, completely re-envisioning the pieces and their purposes. As well as visual art, Vollman is firmly established and highly regarded in the avant garde music community, as an instrumentalist, composer and experimental vocalist. |
